Rakugo is a traditional Japanese comic story telling. The stories usually came from humorous incidents from daily life in Edo period (about 400 years ago). OKEICHAN will tell Rakugo in English on a small special stage only using various voice, small props and gestures. The Japanese flute known as Shinobue reverberates with tradition going back hundreds of years. Keiko's repertoire includes Japanese traditional folk songs as well as Western compositions. It will be Keiko's honor and joy to spread the sounds of this special instrument, sounds that resonate nostalgically for all Japanese people, sounds which she hopes will equally resonate with the people of Canada.
