We are using KOFU. Kofu, in Japanese, means used fabrics that can be repurposed. Patterns That Dance. This phrase was inspired by the Japanese word kabuku, the origin of Kabuki. It once meant to lean away from the norm—to express beauty, fashion, and behavior that broke the mold. Being just like everyone else never felt right to me. I want to decide for myself what beauty means, what holds value. The fabrics I use are vintage kimono textiles, made in different times and places. Patterns and materials that were never meant to meet come together through my work— and begin to dance in a new form.
