Takagi Lampwork Beads
PERENNIAL GARDEN

Minori Takagi works out of her studio in East Vancouver. She melts coloured glass rods over a torch to create her work. She uses Japanese soft glass as well as borosilicate glass. Japanese soft glass has unique and elegant colours and borosilicate glass is a substance more durable than the typical soda-lime variety of glass which is great for making jewelry. She started studying glass in Japan in 1997. Since she moved to Vancouver in 2006, she began to blend traditional designs with her unique impressions of “west coast modern.” She was captivated by the confidence of Vancouver’s women, the urban glass skyline, and the incredible ocean, forests, and mountains right at the city’s doorstep. By fusing her traditional Japanese techniques with modern Canadian inspiration, she developed a new style of “wearable art.
